“What you see is what you get.”

Metal music, diving, motorcycling, a military background: Wil does not fit the stereotypical image of a consultant. And he is perfectly fine with that. “I don’t always follow the standard paths,” he says. “And in my experience, that often yields the best results.” His philosophy is simple and clear, both for clients and for the network: “What you see is what you get.” It is this directness, combined with experience and curiosity, that makes Wil a distinctive member of the Metal Business Club and a consultant who prefers the shop floor to the ivory tower.

Turning problems into progress

With an extensive background in finance, Wil has held almost every conceivable position. From assistant accountant and controller to financial director. He worked mainly for large, often international organizations and was often called in when things weren’t going well. “I was usually asked to step in when there were problems,” he says. “And that’s exactly what I like: solving things that aren’t working.” That experience forms the basis of his own company, Mythar Consultancy, which he officially launched in September last year.

Bottom-up and straightforward

Wil has a practical and people-oriented approach. He often starts with a brief company scan: he talks to management about the mission and direction and then tests that on the work floor. Do the employees know where the company is going? Do the processes support that direction, or do they get in the way? “I’m really a bottom-up person,” Wil explains. “I want to know what’s really happening. Not what’s on paper, but what people are actually doing.”

Those initial insights are recorded in a short, concise report with concrete suggestions for improvement. No thick documents, no unnecessary theory. From there, organizations often decide to proceed with a deeper scan or a full improvement project.

The Metal Business Club

Wil joined the Metal Business Club three years ago through a good friend. He is one of the founding members and describes the club as informal, accessible, and sincere. “It’s not overly structured, which actually suits me,” he says.

The club has proven valuable on multiple levels. Wil used the network for interviews with experts during his studies, collaborated with members to create and build his website, and is currently carrying out improvement assignments within the network as part of his Lean and Six Sigma program. “Although I wasn’t always present due to travel and studies, I got a lot out of it,” he explains.

What he appreciates most is the mix of people and disciplines. “You learn from each other, not only professionally, but also as a person. That fits perfectly with how I like to work.”
