We offer our members tickets to various festivals, and of course there is also a MetalBC activity at those festivals. Festival tickets are only available to our (logged-in) members, but we usually also have individual tickets for guests for the MetalBC activities at those festivals.

If you purchase tickets for business purposes, you can reclaim the VAT (21%) and pay the price excluding VAT.

Since you are purchasing the tickets for business purposes, the minimum benefit you receive is the income tax you would normally pay (in the Netherlands in 2026: 37.56% up to €79,137, and 49.5% above that amount).

Your ticket therefore ‘costs’ you a maximum of 62.44% of the price excluding VAT, compared to a ticket purchased privately.

However, you can gain even more benefit by booking your ticket for a business event as entertainment expenses. Of this, 80% is deductible from your pre-tax turnover (73.5% if you fall into the high tax bracket). Since you are making the purchase on a business basis, you do not pay income tax on the purchase.

Calculation example

To clarify what this means for the cost of your ticket, we have listed the difference between purchasing a ticket privately and purchasing it for business purposes. This calculation is indicative and based on Dutch taxes in 2024. For convenience, we are using rounded amounts for both income (1000 euros) and ticket price (100 euros).

As you can see below, your benefit at the low income tax rate is almost 50%. At the high tax rate, the benefit is even greater!

It is always wise to explain to your bookkeeper/accountant what the Metal Business Club is: we are a networking club that organizes business meetings, both during and around events and separately. We keep our own records and can demonstrate what kind of meeting we have organized and who was present if any questions arise. In addition, (in most cases) only our members can order tickets through us.
